Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

There are seven broad areas of learning and we provide a range of activities to support these:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

We like to keep you informed about our topics by sending a newsletter home each half term.  Our previous topics have included: aliens, dinosaurs, traditional stories, woodland animals and adventures!

Nursery Staffing and Session Times

  • Georgina White – Nursery Teacher
  • Alison Webster – Teaching Assistant

We offer a full 30 hour provision in our nursery for those eligible for the extended hours offer. For those parents allocated the standard 15 hours, these can be taken as full days rather than half days.  Morning sessions start at 8:40am and the afternoon session ends at 3:20pm.

(Morning sessions end at 11:40am and the afternoon session starts at 12:20pm.)

At Ballifield our EYFS staff work closely as a team.  If you have any questions about your child’s development then please speak to any of our staff.

Fruit and Milk

As part of our healthy schools policy every child is offered a free piece of fruit each day.

We also encourage children to bring a labelled, refillable plastic water bottle to school each day.

Lunch Time

If your child is staying at Nursery all day you need to send your child with a packed lunch.  This should be brought into school in a clearly labelled bag / lunch box.

At Ballifield we are a healthy school so we encourage you to pack a healthy lunch for your child.

School Uniform

All children in Ballifield Primary School are required to wear our school uniform.

  • Navy blue sweatshirt/Cardigan with the Ballifield logo
  • Grey, black or dark blue trousers/shorts, jogging bottoms, leggings or skirts.
  • Red, yellow, green or white polo shirts
  • Red, yellow or green checked dresses
  • Appropriate footwear (no open toe sandals or jelly shoes)

We encourage the children to be as independent as possible so clothes that are easy to fasten/unfasten are ideal.

Exploring through play is a part of our curriculum and aprons are provided for messy activities.

Learning outdoors is an important part of our day; please ensure that your child is prepared for changeable weather.  Rain coats are ideal!

Parental Involvement at Ballifield

At Ballifield we recognise the important role and the contributions that parents make to our school community.  We have a thriving PTA (Parent Teacher Association) that meet on a regular basis and are always ready to welcome new parents.  We also have opportunities for parent governors to support and develop our school further.

Attendance and Punctuality

Regular and punctual attendance is essential if children are to make sustained progress, reach their full potential and feel part of a class and a whole school community.  Regular school attendance establishes good habits from an early age and contributes to the development of a positive approach to school and education.

As part of our Attendance and Inclusion policy, school is required to monitor attendance and punctuality of all pupils on a regular basis.  Please inform school of any absence as soon as possible.  This will ensure accurate records are kept.  If your child is absent please contact the school office on: 0114 2697557.

If you know that you are entitled to claim Free Meals due to financial circumstances please fill in a form on the Sheffield City Council website, as the school’s annual budget is calculated on the number of pupils eligible for free meals.

Please Note: Admission to our nursery unit does not constitute any right of entry to Ballifield Primary School. Places will be allocated for Reception by Primary Admissions in accordance with Sheffield City Council’s admissions. Please click here for the admissions policy.
