Opening and closing times
Mainstream, state-funded schools should provide a 32.5-hour week
The DfE expects all mainstream state-funded schools to provide a 32.5-hour week (or 6.5-hour days). Ballifield Primary school exceeds the non-statutory hours suggested (32hrs 55min).
- 8:30am school gates open
- 8.40am official start of the school day
- 8.40am-8.50am registration (the register will be taken during this period)
- 8.50am session 1
- 8.50am pupils arriving after 8.50 will be marked as late
- 9.10am pupils arriving after 9.10 this will be unauthorised
- 1:00pm registration for afternoon session (12:45 for FS2)
- 3.15am end of the school day/collection
What counts as the hours in a school day?
The time from the official start of the school day (morning registration), to the official end of the school day for all pupils (official home time). It includes breaks, lunch, teaching time and any enrichment activities that pupils are expected to attend. It doesn’t include optional before or after-school provision.
Drop-off and collection
At the beginning and end of the school day, parents are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school - we want to have good links with all parents. If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg. you are delayed or another person is dropping off your child or collecting your child) please let us know via email or telephone. This avoids any confusion or upset.

Getting to school
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it's healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we have bike-racks. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely.
