Subject Curriculums
The curriculum is effectively what we do in school. It consists of our aims, schemes and programmes of work to help your child to learn and to deliver the National Curriculum at the appropriate level for each year group. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which promotes the development of the whole child. Whilst the teaching and learning of Numeracy and Literacy is a crucial part of everyday learning, the social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth of every child, is also a key part of our skills based curriculum which focuses on transferable skills within learning.
The National Curriculum provides us with a curriculum which we use as a framework for planning meaningful activities to meet the needs of individual children. From this framework, each year group deliver discrete subjects which gives pupils a context to learn in a way that is fun and motivating.

Withdrawing Pupils from Curriculum Subjects
Introduction
At Ballifield Primary School, we are committed to providing all pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum. There are specific circumstances where parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from certain subjects. The information below outlines these rights and our procedures.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and National Curriculum Subjects
Parents and carers do not have the right to withdraw their child from:
Any aspect of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum
Any part of any subject that forms the National Curriculum
These aspects are a legal entitlement for every child. This includes the biological aspects of animal growth and reproduction taught as part of the Science National Curriculum.
Religious Education (RE)
Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education (RE).
We encourage parents/carers considering withdrawal to meet with the school to discuss the educational aims and content of our RE syllabus. This helps parents/carers make an informed decision.
If a withdrawal is requested, the school will respect this right and work with the family to agree on suitable arrangements for the child during RE lessons.

Requests to withdraw a pupil from RE
Sex and Relationships Education (part of Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education – PSHE)
Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from the Sex and Relationships aspects of PSHE.
This right does not extend to the biological elements required in Science.
We invite parents/carers to meet with us to discuss the objectives and content of the Sex and Relationships syllabus, to ensure an informed decision can be made.
Where withdrawal is requested, we will respect the decision and discuss how best to accommodate the child during these lessons.

How to Request a Withdrawal
If you wish to withdraw your child from RE or Sex and Relationships aspects of PSHE:
Contact the school office to arrange a meeting with to discuss your request.
Review the curriculum content and discuss alternative arrangements for your child during these lessons.
Confirm your decision in writing so we can keep an accurate record and plan suitable supervision or activities for your child.
